How to Find and Save Trending Audio on Instagram Reels in 2026
Trending audio is the engine behind most viral Instagram Reels. A single trending sound can carry hundreds of different creators' videos to the Explore page in the same week. If you've ever wondered how creators consistently find the right sound before it peaks — or how to save that audio for your own offline library — this guide walks through both.
Why Trending Audio Matters
Instagram's Reels algorithm weighs audio usage heavily. When a sound is climbing in popularity, Reels using it tend to get an early distribution boost, since the platform is actively trying to surface what's trending. That's why creators track trending sounds so closely — using an already-popular track early can meaningfully increase a Reel's reach.
How to Spot a Trending Sound
- Look for the upward arrow icon. When you tap an audio name at the bottom of a Reel, Instagram shows how many other Reels have used that sound. A small upward-trending arrow next to the audio name is a strong signal it's currently gaining traction.
- Check the "Reels using this audio" count. Sounds that are climbing quickly — say, from a few hundred to tens of thousands of uses within days — are typically the ones worth acting on early.
- Watch niche accounts, not just huge ones. Trending sounds often surface first in smaller or mid-tier creator accounts within a specific niche before crossing over to mainstream use.
Saving Trending Audio for Offline Use
Once you've found a track you want to keep — whether for reference, remixing, or simply listening offline — you don't need any special software. You can extract the audio from any public Reel in three steps:
- Copy the Reel's link from the Instagram app (tap the three-dot menu → Copy Link).
- Paste it into the Song / Audio downloader tool on our homepage.
- Choose the 320kbps MP3 option and download — the extracted audio plays back at full quality, matching what you heard in the original Reel.
A Note on Usage Rights
Instagram's built-in "Save Audio" feature only lets you reuse a sound inside Instagram's own Reels editor — it doesn't give you an exportable file. Extracting the actual MP3 is useful for personal offline listening, reference, or fair-use commentary, but if you plan to reuse licensed music commercially, you'll still need permission from the rights holder, exactly as you would with any other copyrighted recording. See our Terms of Service for more on acceptable use.
