How to Set an Instagram Reel Audio as Your iPhone Ringtone
Turning a viral Reel sound into a custom iPhone ringtone or text alert takes a bit more than a single tap — Apple doesn't let you import MP3s as ringtones directly. But with a free audio extraction tool and the Voice Memos / GarageBand apps that already come on every iPhone, the whole process takes about five minutes.
What You'll Need
- The link to the Instagram Reel with the audio you want
- The free Song / Audio downloader on this site
- The GarageBand app (free, pre-installed on most iPhones, or downloadable from the App Store)
Step 1: Extract the Audio
- Open the Instagram Reel, tap the three-dot menu, and select Copy Link.
- Go to our Song / Audio Downloader, paste the link, and tap Download.
- Save the resulting 320kbps MP3 file to your iPhone's Files app.
Step 2: Trim It to Ringtone Length
iPhone ringtones must be 30 seconds or shorter. Apple's GarageBand app makes trimming simple:
- Open GarageBand and start a new project using the Audio Recorder track.
- Tap the track, choose Loop Browser or import from Files, and select your downloaded MP3.
- Drag the clip's edges to select the best 20–30 second section — usually the chorus or the most recognizable hook.
Step 3: Export as a Ringtone
- Tap the song title at the top of the screen, choose My Songs.
- Tap and hold your project, choose Share, then Ringtone.
- Name it and tap Export. GarageBand will offer to open it directly in the Sound settings.
Step 4: Set It as Your Ringtone
Go to Settings → Sounds & Haptics → Ringtone, and your new tone will appear at the top of the custom tones list, ready to select.
A Quick Note
This method works great for personal use on your own device. If the underlying track is a commercially licensed song rather than user-generated audio, keep in mind that redistributing it beyond personal use would fall outside typical fair-use bounds — see our Terms of Service for details.
